Individual Therapy for Adults

I specialize in working with adults (18+) facing challenges in connection, life transitions, burnout, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Together, we’ll navigate the complexities of your emotions, inner thoughts, life experiences and circumstances, while slowly fostering trust and safety. Throughout this process, you will gain clarity into yourself, your past, and develop new coping strategies for the future. With these resources, you will grow to have stronger connections, confidence, and embrace a life enriched with emotional depth and fulfillment.

Couples Therapy

Relationship therapy helps partners improve their communication, resolve conflicts, and enhance intimacy. Together, we will increase your understanding of each other by exploring underlying issues and emotional dynamics. My goal is to facilitate open dialogue, harbor mutual respect, and increase your awareness of the negative cycle inhibiting your communication. In time, this will help strengthen your relationship, fostering a healthier and more satisfying connection.

Clinical Consultation

Jennifer Brizuela is available for clinical supervision for pre-licensed clinicians or peer consultations for licensed therapists. Consultation can be used for case conceptualization, exploring how to tailor treatment to meet your client’s needs, and discussing possible legal and ethical implications that may arise. I work from an attachment-focused lense that is rooted in social justice. I have experience in various settings including child welfare, hospital social work (inpatient and emergency room), community mental health, and private practice. Please contact me to discuss your current needs and schedule a consultation call.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a structured therapeutic approach grounded in attachment theory, focusing on the emotional bond between partners. It aims to identify and transform negative interaction patterns into secure and lasting emotional connections. EFT emphasizes the expression and validation of emotions to foster a sense of safety and mutual understanding between partners. It is widely used for couples but can also be adapted for individuals and families. Empirical research supports EFT's effectiveness in improving relationship satisfaction and emotional well-being.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapeutic approach designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. It involves the patient recalling distressing experiences while simultaneously undergoing bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side movements. This process aims to reduce the emotional charge of the memory and help reprocess it in a more adaptive way. It is particularly effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but has also been applied to other mental health issues. Research supports its efficacy, showing significant reductions in symptoms of trauma and anxiety.
